What is Non Surgical Rhinoplasty? Brief discussion

We all have heard of rhinoplasty, or at least hear it’s more common term, the nose job. Rhinoplasty is a facial plastic surgery that is used in order to change or enhance an individual’s nose in order to achieve a desired look. This can involve refinement or narrowing of the nasal tip, changing proportions, or altering the bridge of the nose.

Up until recently, the only way to accomplish this was through normal rhinoplasty surgery. This procedure is done using anesthesia, either intravenous sedation or general anesthesia, followed by an incision, and the completed with reshaping and restructuring. However, due to the rise of injectable fillers, this is no longer the only option that a patient has that wishes to reshape their nose.

The non-surgical nose job procedure uses injectable fillers that are used to enhance the shape of the nose. While it cannot fix some rhinoplasty issues such as deviated septum, this filler technique can achieve a desired look through smoothing over nasal inconsistencies. Fillers can be injected above and/or below a mild nasal hump, as well as straighten the nasal bridge without the need for major invasive cosmetic surgeryDr Coberly says.

In lieu of general anesthesia, your surgeon will be utilizing a topical anesthetic to numb the treated area before injection, ensuring that you will not experience pain during your non-surgical rhinoplasty.

Benefits of Non-Cosmetic Surgery

There certainly are benefits to filler injections in contrast to rhinoplasty. If you’re worried about the cost or downtime caused by invasive surgery, non-surgical rhinoplasty may be something you would want to consider instead. Additionally, if the idea of surgery, including worries about going under with anesthesia, is an issue that causes concern, non-surgical rhinoplasty again could be your solution.

The downside of non-surgical rhinoplasty is that the solution can only do so much. Small abrasions or indents on the nose can certainly be smoothed over. However, major deviations, often caused by broken noses, may need more than filler to completely resolve.

Is Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty Permanent?

Yes and no. There are solutions that last 6-8 months or sometimes up to a year. Many will use this solution as a preferred method and simply redo the treatment yearly. This is best for those with a true fear of surgery, or to those that have minimal adjustments to fix but want to use a bit of filler for a more aesthetic look.

There are, however, some filler material that are meant to be used permanently. These materials depend on the doctor you use, as each surgeon generally develops their own opinion on which non-surgical filler is best suited for a long-term solution to nasal reshaping.

Find What is Right for You

The only way to best determine which solution, non-invasive or traditional, is best for you, is to have a consultation and discussion with a plastic surgeon. As aforementioned, a deviated septum or major correction will require a traditional rhinoplasty. On the other hand, if a correction is fairly minimal and can simply be smoothed over with filler, non-surgical rhinoplasty may be the better solution.
