Although the therapists at Counseling Services of Austin do not file insurance claims directly, your health insurance may include benefits for counseling. Should you decide to use your insurance benefits for counseling at CSOA, your therapist will provide you with a claim form that you may send to your insurance company to be reimbursed for any expenses incurred.  To get further information about your insurance coverage, you will want to call your insurance company and ask the following questions:

  • -  Do I have "out of network benefits for outpatient counseling."
  • -  What is my deductible and has it been met?
  • -  How many sessions per year does my health insurance cover?
  • -  What is the coverage amount per therapy session?
  • -  Is approval required from my primary care physician?
  •
  • Please note that many insurance companies only cover diagnosable mental disorders and not marriage counseling specifically (because most health/medical insurance companies do not consider marital problems to be a medical issue).   This means that if a couple is seen in therapy for struggles within the marriage, in order to utilize health insurance, one of the partners must receive a mental health diagnosis.  Your therapist will talk more with you in therapy sessions about whether a diagnosis is appropriate, and if so, what diagnosis will be used.
